The Special Assistant to Oyo State Governor on OYSIEC, Hon. Tallest Innocent has reiterated the need for none-indigent residents of Oyo state to participate in the ongoing Continous Voter Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to beef up the voting strength of the state.
Hon. Tallest disclosed this while addressing a forum of stakeholders at the Ibadan residence of the Traditional Prime Minister of Ezinifite Kingdom, High Chief Godson Ifeanyiaka.
He noted that INEC, having commenced online and physical registration at the various local government offices, will soon devolve the exercise to ward levels for easy access, encouraging the stakeholders to mobilize their people to massively enroll for the voter registration exercise as long as they live and do their various businesses in Oyo state
“it is very important for you to mobilize your people to participate actively in the voter registration exercise. As you know, it is meant for all Nigerians irrespective of their states of origin. It is a constitutional responsibility of citizens above the age of 18 to register and obtain permanent voter cards to enable them to participate in the electoral process”
He also said that the exercise offers an opportunity for persons to correct information on their data. “People with errors such as the wrong date of birth, names, and gender need not register again, as INEC officials at the registration centers would provide the much-needed assistance in correcting such errors”.
Tallest further urged residents who have earlier enrolled for the exercise but are yet to collect their PVCs to seize the opportunity to collect their permanent voter cards from INEC. Recall that the INEc resident electoral commissioner for Oyo state, Barr. Mutiu Agboke disclosed that the state has over 700,000 uncollected PVCs in it’s custody.
