The successful conduct of the just concluded Local Government Chairmanship and Ward Councilorship election in Oyo have been attributed to the democratic principles of the State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the resolve of the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to maintain neutrality throughout the whole process.
This was disclosed by the Special Assistant to Oyo state Governor on OYSIEC matters, Hon. Tallest Innocent while receiving award of excellence by the federation of Igbo state students (FISU), the Polytechnic Ibadan chapter. Hon Tallest explained that the peaceful atmosphere witnessed before, during and after the election is a reflection of the present day’s administration in Oyo state resolve, to uphold the tenets of democracy by allowing the people to vote for their preferred candidates without victimization and intimidation: “the election was free, fair and credible because all the key players in the process was committed to it, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde inaugurated OYSIEC and gave them free hands to be truly independent in the real sense, and conduct election that will reflect the opinion of the masses. In the build up to the election, the OYSIEC left no stone unturned in ensuring that all participating political parties were carried along.”
The special Assistant equally assured the students that the present administration in Oyo state is resolved to protecting the interests of all every resident without ethnic considerations.
Presenting the award to Hon. Tallest, the president of the Association Okoro Paul Ogonnaya described the awardee as a worthy ambassador of the Igbo community in Oyo state, urging him not to relent in the leading role of promoting good governance in the pace setter state.
