In order to enhance food production in Osun State, the government has informed that, it has concluded arrangement to procure fifty tractors to boost it mechanized farming.
The General Manager, Osun State Agricultural Development Corporation, OSSADEC, Mr Kayode Olanipekun made this known in an exclusive chat with newsmen in Osogbo over the weekend while speaking on efforts of the state government to guarantee food security in the state.
Olanipekun, who said the availability of the tractors would give farmers more access to the facility noted that government was always committed to enhance the productivity of farmers in the state.
Speaking on plan of Federal government to stop importation of food to the country by December, the General Manager, hinted that the state government had set machineries in motion through various intervention programmes.
He explained that the state would take its advantage in the area of maize and cassava to enhance its production and work towards actualization of federal government goals and objectives.
Olanipekun, stressed the need for farmers to access government loan through the corporation and those who have benefited from the loan should pay back within the stipulated time in order to create avenue for other farmers to benefit.
The OSSADEC Boss, hinted that government would not hesitate to prosecute loan defaulters, saying government was keen to agricultural development.
The General Manager expressed further, the readiness of government to provide necessary chemical and fertilizer at subsidies rate as well as ensure effective monitoring of farmland by agriculture extension workers to improve their yields.
Olanipekun, called on stakeholders in agricultural sector in the state to support government in its quest to make the state the food basket of the nation.
