Former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s house in Abeokuta was gutted by fire .
The fire which reportedly broke out on Wednesday night wreaked havoc on the building situated at the Ita-Eko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The fire incident, reportedly caused by a power surge, happened in the late hours of Wednesday, February 12 – The state’s fire service confirmed the incident, noting that the fire only affected a store, not the main building.
According to newsmen, the house which is located at Ita-Eko area of Abeokuta was gutted by fire about 9.30pm and that the fire incident was allegedly caused by a power surge.
Residents of the area reportedly joined the former president’s domestic workers to help in putting out the fire in an exercise which lasts for almost an hour.
Fatai Adefala who is the Ogun state’s director of fire service has confirmed the incident, He, however, said that the main building in the former president’s compound was not affected, noting that the fire only affected a store.
Adefala said fire service operatives helped in putting out the fire following the distress call they received in the late hours of Wednesday.
