The Federal Government has allowed a delegation of expert Doctors and Consultants, led by the Islamic Human Rights Commission, to carry out an initial investigation into the state of health of the Leader of the Movement for Islam in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Mallima Zeenah El-Zakzaky.
This was revealed in a statement by the ICHR.
El-Zakzaky and his wife were arrested in December 2015 by operatives of the Department of State Services.
This was after a confrontation in Zaria, Kaduna State by his followers with the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, in which about 1,500 persons were said to have died.
The confrontation, which started at the ground of the IMN, popularly known as Shiites, soon spread to other parts of the town, with the last scene being El-Zakzaky’s residence.
According to the statement issued by ICHR, the initial investigation has highlighted the need for urgent probe into the health of the El-Zakzakys, which the team hopes will be carried out in the next couple of days.
The IHRC acknowledged the change of position of the Federal Government in making this possible and hopes it heralds a full and just resolution of the situation.
