An explosion has rocked the Christian Universal Church in Port Harcourt, said to belong to the father of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers.
J.N.E. Wike, said to be the father of the Rivers state governor, is the general overseer of the church.
The church is located at Azikiwe Street, Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital.
Five persons were reported to have attacked the church on Saturday night, but two of them were apprehended by youth and security officers in the area.
Collins Johnbull, assistant chief security officer of the Azikiwe street, who reportedly narrated the incident, said it was assumed that the suspects were church members until an explosion occurred within the church premises.
He was said to have explained that the security officers in the area saw the suspects trying to escape by jumping out of the windows of the church while wearing masks and carrying guns.
He added that they succeeded in apprehending two of them, and they have been handed over to the police.
One of the security officers was said to have sustained injuries and has been hospitalised.
As of Sunday morning, there was heavy security presence in the area, while a part of the community has been cordoned off to traffic.
