Equality Global Support Foundation (EGSF) joins billions of Black people all over the world to commemorate year 2023 Black History month.
In a statement released in Toronto, Canada on February 1st, 2023, the organization views this year’s theme for Black History Month “Black Resistance” as one that resonates with everyone who identifies as Black as the race has had and continues to have too many obstacles to contend with.
EGSF notes that although slavery had long been abolished; systemic exclusion, racism, high incarceration of black youth and other forms of societal inequalities continue to disproportionately affect Black people. There are numerous baffling statistics pointing to this sad reality. For instance, according to www.naacp.org, “a Black person is five times more likely to be stopped by the cops without just cause than a white person, a Black man is twice as likely to be stopped without just cause than a Black woman and 65% of Black adults have felt targeted because of their race” Inequalities in job opportunities, infrastructures, economic prosperity and health outcomes of black communities continue to be significantly affected by the color of the skin of the inhabitants of the communities.
EGSF opines that resistance against injustice, discrimination and inequity should be an undertaking all races of the world are committed to strengthening as it is only when all races are treated as equal that we can have a truly united and prosperous world.
The organization calls on the Government of Canada to do more in curbing racial inequality in the country.
