Ten-man Liverpool came from behind twice to claim a point following a 2-2 draw against Fulham in their English Premier League (EPL) match at Anfield on Saturday.
The Reds stumbled to share the points in an encounter Fulham were fearless while the hosts were also resilient. Alex Iwobi, Super Eagles of Nigeria international, played all 90 minutes of the pulsating encounter for the visitors.
Andreas Pereira and Rodrigo Munoz put the visitors in the lead twice but Liverpool clawed back through Cody Gapko and Diogo Jota.
Pereira gave Fulham a surprise lead when he produced an acrobatic volley to finish off Antonee Robinson’s cross, silencing the home crowd in the 10th minute.
The Cottagers were then denied the opportunity of going clean through on goal by Robertson who was duly red-carded following a VAR review, reducing Arne Slot’s side to ten men.
Liverpool regrouped in the second half and equalized two minutes after the restart, with Gapko glancing a header past Bernd Leno from Mohamed Salah’s cross for 1-1.
Robinson was again the provider as Fulham reclaimed the lead on 76 minutes through Munoz who bundled home from close range for 2-1. However, Jota, on as a substitute, ensured a share of the points on 84 minutes, firing past Leno from the edge of the box.
Resolute defending denied the hosts a winner in added time as Liverpool dropped points for the first time in six matches. They have 36 points from 15 matches and are five points ahead of second-placed Chelsea.
In other matches, Arsenal dominated but were denied by resolute Everton who held the Gunners to a goalless draw, while Jacob Murphy scored a double as Newcastle United thrashed Leicester City.
