As according to him elections were cancelled in 47 Registration Areas with a total of 41,796 registered voters, while 31,249 Permanent Voter Cards were collected.
The Adamawa State governorship election has been declared inconclusive, even as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri leads with 421,524.
Declaring the polls inclusive, the returning officer, Prof Mohammed Melee said the election was inconclusive because the cancelled votes exceeded the margin of victory.
As according to him elections were cancelled in 47 Registration Areas with a total of 41,796 registered voters, while 31,249 Permanent Voter Cards were collected.
Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 421,524 votes to defeat nearest contender, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 390,275.
The announcement followed the collation of the controversial results from Fufore local government area. As imputed, APC’s Binani scored 24,777 while the incumbent governor, Fintiri trailed her with 20,409 from the Fufore local government area.
After computation, the returning officer, Professor Mohammed Mele, announced the election as inconclusive.
The results were declared under tense atmosphere, after counter accusations of plans to rig by both sides.
Notably, the Resident Electoral Commissioner had been allegedly heard in a leaked audio instructing a staff of the electoral umpire to rig the polls in favour of the APC candidate, Binani.
