EFCC Charges Newly Recruited Bankers To Uphold Banking Rules

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has charged bankers to conduct their activities within the ambits of the rules and regulations of the industry

Head of the Benin Zonal office of the Commission, Muhtar Bello stated this today Tuesday October 15, 2019 when he received some newly employed officers of Access Bank of Nigeria, Benin Branch, who visited the Benin Office as part of their induction training.

He urged banks to collaborate with the Commission in the fight against economic and financial crimes especially cybercrime.

“As an account officer, when you come across suspicious transactions notify us immediately,”he said. He charged them to avoid negligence in the course of their work whether intentionally or unintentionally. “Now that you are bankers we deemed it necessary to let you know what is expected of you to avoid being used by cyber criminals,” he added.

Leonard Nwogu-Ikojo, team lead, Branch Compliance, on behalf of the inductees appreciated the EFCC for the engagement which he said was very educative and informative.

Also today, the Benin Zonal office played host to members of the Young Diplomat Club of Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, with the zonal head admonishing them to be disciplined, honest and transparent in order to achieve their dreams as future leaders of the country.

Bello urged Nigerian students to channel their energy and talent into positive ventures and be good role models in their institutions. “I like the fact that you are willing to partner with us. We are willing to use your platforms to reach more students on our activities. We have a programme in the Commission that accommodate your group,”he said.

He advised the students to be content and avoid inordinate ambition. As he puts it, “do not seek to be like someone else. Don’t be greedy, exhibit good conduct in your daily dealings.”

On the prevalent issue of cybercrime in the society, the EFCC boss called on parents to lead by example and take responsibility for the upbringing of their children.

Earlier, Eghobamien Jasmine, President of the club said they were in the Commission to seek for ways of partnering with the EFCC in propagating integrity and transparency among the youth in the country. She commended the Commission for its efforts in tackling cybercrime in the country.
