Company registration: CAC targets increased online services

The Corporate Affairs Commission has
said it is working to extend its online services to post-registration
services as soon as possible to make things easier and convenient for
businesses.

The Acting Registrar-General, CAC, Azuka
Azinge, said that the commission was committed to simplifying the
process of business registration and other services.

She stated this in Lagos on Wednesday at
the commission’s quarterly customers’ forum aimed at deepening its
communication with customers and other stakeholders.

Azinge said the CAC, in line with its
statutory mandate, had embarked upon several reform initiatives aimed at
easing business registration in Nigeria.

She stated, “This explains the
commission’s strategic policies like decentralisation of its operations;
deployment of the company registration portal; and the integration of
the company registration portal to the stamp duty portal of the Federal
Inland Revenue Service to further ease the process of company
registration.

“The goal is to ensure that every
Nigerian has access to online registration, especially the micro, small
and medium enterprises, to enable more businesses to come into the
formal sector with all the attendant benefits. This is in tandem with
the reform agenda of the Federal Government.”

Azinge added that the current
administration’s agenda on ease of doing business had galvanised the
commission to further improve on its registration and regulation
services to businesses.

She said, “In order to further ease
business registration, the commission has extended its working hours to
7pm from Monday to Friday in our Lagos (Alausa and Island) offices as
well as six of our offices strategically located in each of the
geo-political zones.

“The commission is further encouraging
online registration services to make things easier for everybody, such
that you can from the comfort of your homes and offices transact with
the commission.”

According to her, registration services
can now be done online in all the commission’s 36 state offices, as was
promised in October last year.

“In order to be well armed to effectively deliver on its statutory
mandate, the commission is working closely with National Assembly on the
amendment of its enabling law, the Corporate and Allied Matters Act,”
she added.
