About 2,000 out of the 3,500 newly
admitted students, it was gathered, have presented themselves for the
screening since the deadline for screening was announced. Asked why they
delayed in registering, most of them blamed the increase in the
acceptance fee and the poor understanding of the new Joint Admission and
Matriculation Board Central Admission Processing System.

One of the new students, Ayoola
Olumegbon, who was admitted into the Faculty of Arts, said, “I would
have been here earlier for the screening, but my parents just gave me
money to pay the acceptance fee. It was increased suddenly and they had
to add to the money they gave me before.”

Another student, whose name is Adebimpe,
had JAMB’s new admissions policy to blame. She said, “The JAMB new
policy actually confused me. I got a message on my telephone saying that
another university had admitted me, while the LASU admission was
already there. We were confused and did not know what to do until we got
here.”

The spokesperson of the university, Mr Ademola Adekoya, said that over 60 per cent of the students have been screened.
He explained that efforts were ongoing to resolve the challenges encountered by some of the students.
Martins said that the screening of new
students, which started on January 2, would end on Jan. 15, adding that
LASU offered 3,500 students provisional admission for the 2017/2018
