COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (NEC) OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR DEMOCRACY (CD) HELD, TODAY, FRIDAY 13TH OCTOBER, 2017 IN AKURE ,THE CAPITAL OF ONDO STATE.
The meeting which was full, frank and cordial, was held against the surrounding issues bothering on the integrity and hard earned name of the organization.
The NEC resolved to inform the general public, that the attention of members of the Campaign for Democracy ( CD), have been drawn to the recent activities of the General Secretary of the organization, Mr. Obi Goodluck. The activities are considered as types that are capable of bringing the integrity of the organization into disrepute. The NEC vowed that it will not sit back and watch our age long collective reputation, integrity and democratic struggles be rubbished on the altar of personal interest, selfishness and be subjected to one”s whims and caprice.
The NEC insists that CD is not a partisan organization, and anyone that contradicts this principle and philosophy will be sanctioned accordingly.
The activities of Mr. Obi Goodluck has been generating a lot of heated debate within and among the elites, fans and sympathizers of CD, which, has drawn serious attention of the media, culminating into unpleasant and fouls tasting complements and questions, as, when did CD become a political party?
The most recent, is the Phone-Call Leak, which the media tagged, “Civil Society Contractor Reveals Money ‘eating’ Plan”.
A social media line reports on this nasty development states: “contrary to the belief that Civil Society groups are concentrated on service to humanity and not profit oriented, a civil society contractor Prince Goodluck Obi in a shocking phone conversation has revealed how he recruits some people in the civil society for personal ‘gain”.
According to social media reports, Obi in the phone conversation, leaked to pressmen, boasted of how he is in-charge of the “Meeting of the minds of National security” and Police interface. He revealed how he has been recruiting the Yoruba “activists”. He also added that the Igbos involve “is me”
Straightening the record, we are not perturbed by his meeting with politicians or any of the security agencies such as the Nigerian Police; we are only discontented with his anti-organization posture and activities. In recent times, the press flooded the media with Obi wearing Buhari’s T-Shirt with megaphone in his hand calling the unsuspicious members of the public and civil society to queue in to his anti union’s deal to the amazement and embarrassment of many of us.
Meanwhile, his refusal to acknowledge and respond to all queries issued to him, as well as, failure to appear before the 3 man disciplinary panel headed by the CD National Publicity and Publications Secretary, Comrade Lanre Ogunyinka, despite all entreaties, have not only been worrisome to the organisation, but imperatively, calls for urgent decisive action.
Consequently, while Goodluck Obi can not be denied of his fundamental right to belong and hold personal political view or thought, it is indescribable and unimaginable that any one holding the position of General Secretary of CD could stoop so low, and fully engaged in partisan politics in full glare of other members of CD and the general public.
Having consulted with wide spectrum of opinion leaders and all stakeholders of the Campaign for Democracy CD, the national administrative council (NEC) hereby expel Mr. Obi Goodluck from the group as his replacement will be announced at a later date.
