The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Yusuf Buratai, on Wednesday inaugurated a special operation code-named ‘operation harbin kunama’, aimed at flushing out bandits and other criminal elements in Southern Kaduna.
The operation, Buratai said will last for one month and noted that there would no longer be a hiding place for armed bandits in the southern part of the state.
The COAS sued for peace among the residents of the area, urging them to maintain peace and avoid reprisal attacks.
Buratai told the gathering which included the State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and other top government officials at the event held in Kafanchan, that the military would continue to assist in containing any crisis.
Buratai, who said the first phase of ‘Operation Harbin Kunama’ was conducted in parts of Kaduna and Zamfara States in 2016, added that the officers and men engaged in the operation would be guided by the rules of engagement.
He noted that human rights protection was key to the operations.
