Muhammadu Sanusi II has been deposed as the emir of Kano “for disrespecting” the office of the governor.
This was announced at a special sitting of the Kano executive council chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state.
Usman Alhaji, secretary to the state government, said the removal, which was in line with “consultation with relevant stakeholders”, was with immediate effect.
It had been reported how Ganduje plotted to remove Sanusi whom he fell out with shortly before he was reelected.
