Senator Douye Diri has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governorship primaries ahead of the Bayelsa gubernatorial election fixed for November 16th 2019.

Diri, Senator representing Bayelsa Central senatorial district pulled 561 votes to win the primary held on Tuesday night at Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, South-South, Nigeria.

Declaring the result by Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba, who is the Chairman, Party’s Electoral Committee for the State, said Diri’s closest rival, Mr Timi Alaibe scored 365 votes, while Mr Keniebi Okoko scored 142 for the third position.

About 21 governorship aspirants contested for the party flag bearer.

Diri was a member of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, where he represented the people of Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma federal constituency of the State, before he was elected as the Senator representing Bayelsa central senatorial district during the 2019 general election.

In the same vein, the Immediate past Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly and governorship aspirant of the PDP,  Konbowei Benson who also lost the seat has congratulated the winner of the party’s governorship primary election, Senator Douye Diri on his election victory.
