Toronto’s Pearson International Airport says that they expect August 16 to be their busiest day of the year.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is expecting over 172,000 passengers to pass through the airport on Friday.
The GTAA says that this summer has been the busiest that Pearson Airport has ever had and on average 160,000 passengers travelled through per day. This time of year is typically busy due to last-minute summer vacations and family trips before the school year begins.
Robin Smith, a spokesperson for GTAA, says that many international travellers that have come for a summer vacation in Canada will be departing from Pearson on this day.
Pearson Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Canada and 11 million passengers are expected to have travelled through the airport between Canada Day and the Labour Day long weekend. For comparison, the Louvre Museum in Paris saw 10.4 million guests for the entire year of 2018.
The airport is advising that travellers give themselves extra time to arrive at the airport and to check their flight status on Pearson Airport’s website
