Prince Lanre Sanusi’s Legal Department has demanded the story published on Sahara Reporters on 21st of June be retracted before the legal action is taken against those behind the pubcation.
According to the legal team, they wrote ‘Our attention has been drawn to a publication in Sahara Reporters media outlets post of 21st June 2022, wherein they made a libellous and defamatory statement concerning our APC Candidate in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS), tagged: ‘Anti-graft Agency, EFCC arrested Lagos APC House of Representatives Candidate with Questionable Certificate, Sanusi for Multi-Million Naira Fraud’.
‘As Head and member of Legal Directorate for PLS campaign group, the undersigns states on instruction of Prince Lanre Sanusi that the said publication is not only false and without any factual basis but malicious in all material respect. It is by the reckoning of our candidate, a deliberate attempt sponsored and/or designed to malign his image and his political status as APC Candidate Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency.
‘Our Candidate has consequently directed us to request for a retraction of the said press publication and apology to be published in two major newspapers and several online news outlets not later than forty-eight (48) hours. Contrarily, we shall be constrained to take a serious Legal action against Sahara Reporters and all sponsors of the said publication.
‘To set the records straight, we use this medium to state categorically that the said publication going round concerning our APC House Representative Candidate-Elect, Prince Lanre Sanusi, that EFCC’ arrested him can best be described as political blackmail. As with nearly everything in Nigeria, political blackmail is shrouded in parochial survivalism. It is the act of selling cock and bull stories about someone to a person of influence but in this case, the media, to tarnish the subject’s integrity.
We state further that the said publication is a false and fabricated story and a smear campaign sponsored by some disgruntled political elements who were not satisfied with the results of the last primary election held in Amuwo Odofin wherein Prince Lanre Sanusi emerged as the winner and grabbed the APC House of Representative Ticket.
We therefore use the medium to put the Public on Notice that Prince Lanre Sanusi was not arrested by EFCC, Security or graft Agency whatsoever, neither was he invited by the EFCC for fraud or any other offences. The report is, at best, a figment of the writer’s imagination.
‘We reiterated that the said publication was the orchestration of political attackers bent on denting our Candidate’s image.
Independent investigation has revealed the identities of sponsors of the publication, among whom are unpopular aspirants for Amuwo Odofin House of Representative who lost woefully in the contest for the APC ticket in the constituency. In fact, we find it amusing that people could go this extreme just to grab the ticket through the back door. In their own interest we enjoin them to accept the result of the primary in good faith, instead of resorting to unholy ways of pulling down the people’s mandate in Amuwo Odofin Local government.
‘Finally, we herein state emphatically that we shall take legal action against the perpetrators of the publication if they did not retract the publication within the period stated above.’
