The presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Mayaki, on Wednesday, said the bail conditions for Aliyu would be N150m with two sureties who would deposit the Certificates of Occupancy of two landed properties worth N200m each.
While ruling on the bail of Umar Nasko, who was the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state in 2015, Mayaki said bail would be granted with an option of N100m even as Nasko would provide two sureties with landed properties located within the state and worth N150m each.
The judge, however, disclosed that each of the offences attracted punishment of up to seven years imprisonment.
In an interview with newsmen, counsel for Nasko, Mamman Usman, however, said the bail terms were too harsh, saying he (Nasko) was a man of exemplary character who would never jump bail.
He said, “The Judge demonstrated tremendous courage and he showed a good grasp of both procedure and substantive laws.
“When you look at the bail conditions for someone, whose antecedents are as reflected in the affidavit which the judge believed, I believe strongly without being disrespectful to this wonderful academic ruling that was given by the Judge, that the conditions are harsh.”
