Akwa United on Saturday unveiled their 16 new signees at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
They are Etboy Akpan, who was signed from a Slovenian club, Ubong Essien (Wellcome Time Academy Kano), Emmanuel Charles (Akwa Starlet), Daniel Ekpo (Rivers United), Kenneth James (El-Kanemi Warriors), Aminu Nuhu (Adamawa United), Aniekeme Asuquo (Akwa Starlet) and Katoh Haggai (GBS Academy Jos).
Others are Gabriel Wassa (Rivers United), Yenne Tenton (GBS Academy), Kelly Kester (Enyimba), Victor Mbaoma (Remo Stars), Ajibola Otegbeye (Sunshine Stars), Adeshina Gata (ABS), Dennis Nya (Lobi Stars) and Etim Matthew (Enugu Rangers).
The chairman of the Akwa Ibom State-owned club Paul Bassey said the new players would strengthen the team.
The veteran sports journalist said, “We are ready for the new season and I want to assure our fans that by the grace of God, who we have made the foundation of this club, we will turn our home ground, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, into a slaughter house for visiting teams.
Head coach, Abdul Maikaba, said some of the players were given a long term contract with a view to bringing stability and instil confidence in the minds of the other players.
Akwa United, who will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup this year, open their Premier League campaign against Rangers this weekend.
