Super Eagles on-field captain at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), William Troost-Ekong, has been named in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) best eleven of the tournament.
Troost-Ekong, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), was included in the lineup, with Ola Aina slotted in as the best right-back, while Ademola Lookman was the only Nigerian attacker named.
The 2023 African footballer of the year, Victor Osimhen, was missing from the best eleven.
The host country, Cote d’Ivoire, contributed three players to the team while South Africa goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, who was awarded the Golden Gloves manned the post.
Lookman was responsible for the Super Eagles reaching the semi-finals of the tournament with goals against Cameroon and one against Angola.
Aina on his part was important to the Nigerian team with his ability to switch positions at will.
The Elephant’s coach, Emerse Fae, was voted to coach the team.
