YORUBA socio-political group, Afenifere, on Tuesday lauded the nomination of National Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111, describing the choice as a rightful one given his contributions to the defence of Yorubaland and the growth and development of its culture.
Afenifere gave the commendation in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yinka Odumakin, while congratulating the new Aare Ona Kakanfo on the appointment.
The group said besides Adams being the right choice for the exalted office, the OPC leader represented the quintessential Yoruba spirit that one could by dint of hard work rise from humble beginning to the greatest height in life, as such was not a function of one’s background.
“As he accepts the responsibility of the Aare, Afenifere prays to God to grant him the wisdom, courage and character to carry out the functions of his office. And may He grant him longevity of life,” the group said.
“His choice is a rightful one by the Alaafin given his contributions to the defence of Yorubaland and the growth and development of its culture.
“Besides, Otunba Adams represents the quintessential Yoruba spirit that you can by dint of hard work rise from humble beginning to the greatest height as your zenith in life is not a function of your background.
“We commend him to the young people of our land to rise beyond the gas ceilings.
