Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has said that his administration has commissioned Oyo State project and not Sen. Ajimobi’s project.
Governor Makinde speaking during the unveiling of the Baptist Primary School 1 and 2, in Oyo Town today 5th September, said ” Some were saying I am happy commissioning the uncompleted projects of the previous administration, but I have this to reply them that those projects are Oyo state projects and not Ajimobi projects.
“The projects are Oyo State projects, the money used from the initial state of the project for financing it, Oyo state money and I am happy to be the one commissioning it today because it is the wish and will of God that I will be the one that will complete and commission the projects.
“The people that started the projects could have probably finish and commissioned it, but God is to be praised for putting us there to complete it, however those projects might not start by us by we are the one commissioning it today, we met the projects uncompleted, we supported the projects with funds, we did not know the contractor that is handling the projects but we find it worthy to support, and the projects was properly monitored till the end.” He said.
Governor Makinde also noted that the Baptist Model School is the first project to be commissioned on the day his administration is celebrating one hundred days in Office.
” I have the feeling that you the good people of Oyo casted your votes for me massively during the last gubernatorial election, I know this fact because I can see that it is only me you voted for, our Senatorial and House of Assembly candidate’s were denied of the office by your votes, most of them are your biological brother but you choose not to vote for them but voted for me and its on this note that I said that I must be here to commission my first project for the State.
“You elected us to serve you the good people of Oyo, the first to be commission will be in Oyo and that is why I am here this morning, it is very important to authenticate the fact that every purpose of government is to provide basic education for his citizenship, education play a major role in human capital development and it on this note we need to fund the sector with ten percent of our budget.
“I was once a student like these pupils, in 1985 I was a student of Bishop Philips Academy here in Ibadan, then we were told that we are the leaders of tommorow, and now it is happening, as I am now in the leadership seat today, and same things goes to those pupils, either we believe it or not those pupils are the leaders of tommorow, within them they can become future Governor, even president of a nation, so we have to do all the possible best to make sure we give them the best.
“An idle hand is a devil’s workshop, if those children are not properly monitored and if we fail to give them adequate and basic support, they can become a threat to the society. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure we have a proper and adequate quality and functional education for our children, as government alone cannot do it all. Makinde stressed.
Earlier in his address, the State Chiarman of SUBEB Dr. Aderemi Adeniran said education in Oyo State under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is absolutely free and it is not free like the type of the previous government in the state that was collecting three thousand naira from students and yet they were saying they are offering them free education.
“Ten percent of our annual budget is committed to the education sector just to make sure we have a very high standard of education in the state, and to also make sure that Oyo state has lesser percentage of out of school children and all these were made possible by the good gesture of our Governor.
“This Baptist Model school that we are commissioning today have not less than 20 board rooms, an ICT centers, 18 toilets, sickbays and libraries, this school is yours, I urge you to make a good use of this edifice for the benefit of ourselves and our children. Adeniran said.
