US President Donald Trump has blamed the stock market decline on the electoral victory of his rival Democratic Party in the midterm elections earlier this week.
“The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday — So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform after US markets closed on Thursday.
Analysts attributed Thursday’s stock selloff to fears that Democrats could threaten the investment boom in artificial intelligence (AI) data centres. The technology-focused Nasdaq recorded its worst percentage decline in a single session since April 2025.
Data centres have faced widespread opposition from American voters, regardless of political affiliation, while several winners of the midterm elections have pledged to put the brakes on such projects.
