Prince Segun Akanni, Publisher of The Drum Online Organization (Pan-Afrikan), has been named Cultural Ambassador of the Year by the Indigenes of Osun in Canada (IOIC).
The award was presented by IOIC President Prince Olasunkanmi Adebayo at the organization’s 15th Anniversary celebration on October 4 in North York. It recognizes Akanni’s leadership, community contributions and commitment to promoting African culture and heritage.
Akanni is also the convener of the Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival in Canada and Executive Director of the Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development. Through his media, cultural and community work, he helps preserve and share African heritage, encourage cultural exchange and bring people together across communities.
In accepting the honour, Akanni expressed his appreciation to the IOIC president, executive members and 15th Anniversary planning committee for selecting him as the award recipient. He also commended the organization for its work in strengthening unity, love and harmony among Osun indigenes in Canada.
“I am deeply grateful to IOIC for this honour. I dedicate it to everyone working to preserve our heritage and share it with future generations.
I congratulate the Osun Indigenes In Canada on its 15th anniversary and commend its leaders and members for continuing to bring our community together,” said Akanni.
