Hansi Flick has confirmed signing a new contract extension with FC Barcelona, committing his future to the Catalan giants until 2028 with an option for an additional season.
The announcement comes just days after Flick guided Barcelona to a second consecutive La Liga title following a 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s league clash against Deportivo Alavés, the 61-year-old German manager expressed happiness with the agreement and confidence in the club’s long-term project.
“I am very happy and what I have achieved gives me confidence to continue one or two more years,” Flick said.
He explained that shorter-term contracts are often more suitable at Barcelona, adding that both parties reached an agreement that benefits the club and the coach alike.
Flick also revealed that his immediate target after securing the league title is to lead Barcelona past the 100-point mark in La Liga this season.
“Our goal is to reach 100 points, and to do so we have to win all three matches,” he stated.
Since arriving at Barcelona in 2024 to replace Xavi Hernández, Flick has enjoyed remarkable domestic success despite the club’s financial challenges.
In two seasons, he has guided Barcelona to two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey trophy, and two Spanish Super Cups.
However, the UEFA Champions League title has remained elusive. Barcelona suffered a quarter-final exit to Atlético Madrid this season after falling to Inter Milan in the semi-finals the previous year.
Flick acknowledged the club’s ambition to conquer Europe once again, insisting that both the players and coaching staff remain committed to winning more trophies.
“Everyone dreams of the Champions League. We have tried and we will keep trying,” he said.
Before joining Barcelona, Flick enjoyed enormous success with Bayern Munich, where he won the UEFA Champions League in 2020 alongside multiple domestic honours.
He also served as assistant coach to Joachim Löw when Germany national football team won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Despite a difficult spell later as Germany’s head coach, Flick has successfully rebuilt his reputation at Barcelona, transforming the club into one of Europe’s dominant teams once again.
