Comedian Jon Stewart didn’t hold back his mockery of Elon Musk following the tech billionaire’s fallout with U.S. President Donald Trump.
On Monday, The Daily Show host opened his weekly monologue with news that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) finally “rooted out one of America’s least efficient government workers … and marked him for dismissal.”
Musk, hired by Trump as a special government employee to oversee DOGE, was tasked with eliminating wasteful spending.
His last day was Friday, but Musk said at the time that he will still help out Trump when needed.
“He’s leaving his job to make more family with his time,” Stewart cracked, referring to the father-of-14’s world view that the world needs more children due to falling birth rates.
“Or he just has a mail-order sperm farm going. I don’t know what he’s doing.”
The long-time late night host, who returned to the show last year in a part-time role, said Trump put Musk through the ringer in recent months.
“Elon spent $300 million of his own money to get Trump elected, irreparably damaged his personal brand and almost all of his businesses, and is clearly suffering some kind of issue,” Stewart said.
A report last week by the New York Times alleges Musk was not only using but abusing ketamine, ecstasy, Adderall and psychedelic mushrooms during the 2024 presidential campaign. It is not known if his alleged drug consumption continued while working for the U.S. government.
The report also said Musk told people he was using ketamine so much that it was affecting his bladder.
The tech mogul, who heads electric car company Tesla and space technology firm SpaceX, denied the drug abuse allegation on Saturday.
“To be clear, I am NOT taking drugs!” he wrote on his X platform. “The New York Times was lying their ass off.
“I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven’t taken it since then.”
To celebrate his time helping the Trump administration, Musk appeared at the Oval Office on his last day and received a ceremonial key to the White House.
During the visit, Musk was seen with bruising around his right eye. He explained that he was “horsing around” with his son X, who punched him in the face.
“He looks beaten down,” Stewart said. “He’s got that look on his face that I imagine his employees normally have. Black eye, 1,000-yard stare.”
Stewart summed up Musk’s appearance in Washington as unnecessary.
“There was no need for Trump and Elon to commemorate this epic fail,” Stewart said. “It’s an embarrassing display of theatre.
“Look at these guys, pretending like this is some kind of celebratory, victorious sendoff for a job well done.”
