The Falconets of Nigeria have qualified for the final of the women’s football event at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.
The team defeated Uganda in the competition’s semi-final at the Cape Coast Stadium on Monday.
Nigeria had qualified for the penultimate round after beating Morocco 2-0 in their first game and thrashing Senegal 4-0 in the other group game.
The Ugandans proved more formidable opponents for the Falconets as both teams failed to make headway in the first half.
But the Falconets flexed their lethality in the second half, and Okah Adaobi scored the game’s first goal in the 74th minute.
Chiamaka Okwuchukwu cushioned the victory in the 89th minute with a brilliant strike.
Falconets will face either Senegal or Ghana in the competition’s final on Thursday.
Nigeria won gold medal in the event at the last edition of the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019.
The Flying Eagles crashed out of the men’s football event on Friday after losing 3-2 to Senegal in their final group game. They finished third in the group behind Uganda and Senegal.
