The National Capital Commission has sent out a social media teaser for all those people who’ve been awaiting the opening of the Rideau Canal Skateway.
“This week’s cold weather is giving us a boost, and we’re working to reopen the Rideau Canal Skateway as soon as possible.”
Workers were out flooding the ice surface Friday morning near the Flora Footbridge in the Glebe.
After a brief four-day opening, the Skateway has been closed since Jan. 25 due to mild weather and freezing rain.
The agency has said it usually needs between 10 to 14 consecutive days of cold weather between -10 C to -20 C before opening the Skateway.
This week’s evening temps have been at or below the -10 C mark.
Environment Canada is forecasting overnight lows of -12 C on Friday and -16 C on Saturday.
