The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Abdullahi Ganduje, former Kano governor, as the party’s national chairman.
Ajibola Basiru, former senate spokesperson, has been elected as the party’s national secretary.
The officials were elected today during the party’s 12th NEC meeting which held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, attended the meeting.
Also present at the NEC meeting were members of the progressive governors’ forum (PGF) and members of the national assembly, among others.
Immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had disclosed beforehand that they would not be attending the meeting due to earlier commitments.
Bisi Akande, the party’s first national chairman, was however in the hall.
Ganduje promised to strengthen internal democracy within the APC, during his acceptance speech.
The party had held its national caucus meeting on Wednesday.
Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore resigned as the party’s national chairman and national secretary respectively in July.
