The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend the impending strike scheduled to commence on Wednesday.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this on Monday night after a meeting between the federal government and the unions at Aso Villa.
“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC would review World Bank Financed Cash transfer scheme and propose inclusion of low-income earners in the programme”, the communique reads in part.
According to reports gathered by The Citizen Reports that this was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the meeting held yesterday evening.
TCR observed that members of the NLC, led by Joe Ajaero, the president, arrived at the presidential villa at about 5:45pm on Monday.
Similarly, The National Industrial Court, Abuja had earlier yesterday stopped the NLC and TUC from embarking on a nationwide strike billed to start tomorrow.
Recalled that the NLC had on June 2 given the federal government a five-day ultimatum to revert to the old price of petrol or face a nationwide strike following the hike in product pump price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).
