Davido, the Afrobeats singer, has taken to social media to celebrate his 12th year in the music industry.
In a tweet on Sunday, the ‘If’ crooner said it has been 12 years since he released his debut single while describing himself as “God’s child.
“12 years ago today I dropped my first single … God’s child,” he wrote.
With strings of awards and honourary mentions, the singer has established himself as one of the leading names in the African music industry.
In 2011, Davido released his first single ‘Back When’, a song from his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (2012).
He rose to fame after releasing ‘Dami Duro’, the second single from his debut studio album.
In 2012, Davido won the ‘next rated’ award at The Headies.
In the last decade, the 30-year-old Afrobeats singer has put out hundreds of chart-topping singles like ‘Gobe’, ‘One of a Kind’, ‘Skelewu’, ‘Aye’, ‘Owo Ni Koko’, ‘If’, ‘Fall’, ‘Fia’ and ‘Assurance’ among others.
Davido has also continued to enjoy global prominence while winning an avalanche of awards and recognition for his craft.
He would later release two other albums ‘A Good Time’ and ‘A Better Time‘ in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Davido released ‘Timeless’, his fourth album which housed 17 tracks, on March 31.
Since the album’s release, ‘Timeless’ has continued to garner millions of streams across music platforms.
On April 10, it secured the 37th spot on the United States Billboard 200 chart.
The album also set its first-day streaming record for an African album on Apple Music in the same month.
Davido is one of the most-followed African artistes on social media platforms.
