Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is creating tension in Adamawa by failing to conclude the collation of results of the governorship election in the state.
So far, Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP, has won 13 LGAs, leaving Aisha Binani, gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with seven.
The results from Fufore LGA, the only one left, were yet to be collated. Thugs had reportedly snatched the results sheet of the LGA.
INEC officials said that they were working to remedy the situation by getting all the data that have been uploaded on the iRev.
Speaking with reporters in Yola on Monday, Abubakar said there was no reason why there should be a delay in concluding the collation process and announcing the results.
“We see no reason why there should be a delay in the announcement of this result. I personally spoke to the INEC chairman last night. I pleaded with him to allow the result to be announced. PDP is the party that won the elections in Adamawa. All of you can assess the INEC server portal and server and see,” he said.
“Already, 20 out of the 21 LGAs have been collated and PDP is leading, it is only Fufore that they tried to alter the results.
“They have caused serious tension in the state. This is a peaceful state, the attitude of INEC in this state leaves much to be desired.
“So I am using your medium to reach out to INEC, to reach out to Nigerians, and members of the international community to put pressure on INEC to release our results today unfailingly.
“The more they delay the more tension they raise in this state. This is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious state – we have been living peacefully and we are united and this singular action of INEC is trying to destabilise the peace and unity existing in the state.”
