Promotion of academic excellence has been pushed as the panacea to educational, political, social and future economic development of the nation. It was noted that educational improvement of the teaming youth is capable of salvaging the political ignorance lubricating the electing of incompetent leaders in the country.
The imploration was made recently at the launching of an educational extra mural lesson by Akin Adebisi Foundation (AAF). The extra mural lessons cover the three local governments of Iwo, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa local governments council of AYIWOLA Federal Constituency, Osun State.
Addressing the beneficiaries (students), the founder of the foundation, Mr. Akin Adebisi, charged them to take the bull by the horn by burning night candle to excel in their academic pursuit. He lamented on the crisis of education in Nigeria as regrettable, urging the stakeholders to harmonize their interest to rescue the born and unborn generations.
Mr. Adebisi disclosed his readiness to promote academic excellence within his capacity through numerous incentives capable of encouraging the students` commitment to their studies. He therefore distributed motivational textbooks and combined past questions in leading subjects to the students to ginger their memory and promote their learning devotion.
AAF said the students` turn out for the lesson is discouraging in spite of the expensive tendency of education. He advised the students to publicise the exercise by inviting their colleagues and seize the scarce opportunity to develop themselves academically to be a virile and proud ambassador of their domain in the future.
The foundation chooses 3 centres in Ayedire one each from Ileogbo, Kuta and Oluponna. Three centres from Iwo and four centres from Ola-Oluwa. According to the foundation, the justification for the Ola-Oluwa`s four centres is the multiplicity of their towns/villages.
It is regrettable our political actors have monetized and inflated what we benefitted for free. Someone like me tasted quality education with less financial commitment. We were given the very available best but unfortunately, those who inflated it benefited freely then. Things are getting worst and unless people rise up, we might ignorantly waist many generations
Despite the situation, the students need to brace up and face the challenges associated with greatness most especially thirsty of knowledge. Knowledge is the key that closes the door of poverty. When you have knowledge with presentable certificate, you are prospective managers, bankers, engineers, lawyers, doctors, professors and so on. Readers today are leaders tomorrow.
I am passionate about academic knowledge and will never seize doing so. Those with financial wherewithal and stakeholders in academic need to harmonize their interest for the benefit of the country`s tomorrow. Personally, I will never relent to upgrade these students to compete with their colleagues outside. education is the only catalyst that can liberate you from ignorance and poverty and only a venue to unburied your potentials and talents”
Akin Adebisi pledged to provide more incentives for the outstanding students after the exercise.
