The Kaduna state government has announced that it will commence the release of impounded motorcycles on Tuesday.
Carla AbdulMalik, acting corps marshall of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA), announced the development on Saturday.
The planned release comes months after the Kaduna state government announced a ban on the use of motorcycles for personal and commercial purposes.
AbdulMalik said the impounded motorcycles will be released in batches, starting from Tuesday.
She said various categories of fines will be paid before the motorcycles are released to their owners.
According to AbdulMalik, “motorcycles impounded between September to December 2022, would be released between Tuesday, December 20 and December 23, 2022”.
She said motorcycles impounded between May and August would be released between Wednesday, December 28 and Friday, December 30, while those seized from January to April would be released from January 4 to 7, 2023.
Listing the conditions for release, she said the screening stage for documents will be done at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, where forms will be filled and photocopies of documents will be attached to them, as well as singing of undertaking.
The next stage is the payment of fines and registration or renewal of motorcycle documents, which will also be done at the stadium.
She said owners of registered motorcycles will pay N20,000 and N3,700 for renewal of particulars, totalling N23, 700, while owners of unregistered motorcycles will pay the sum of N30,000 for registration and N12,000 for number plates and particulars.
The acting corps marshall said the release forms are to be collected at the stadium, adding that the final release of the motorcycles will be done at KASTLEA headquarters.
Motorcycle owners are expected to present their national identity cards, motorcycle purchase receipts, registration particulars and passport photographs before the retrieval.
