The victims were picked up on Tuesday evening along Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ikom Highway, Cross-River States.
Gunmen believed to be kdinappers have reportedly shot a popular cleric, Evangelist Edim Edim Omin and abducted a former Accountant General of Cross River State under Donald Duke’s administration, Mrs Rose Bassey, and three other commuters.
The victims were picked up on Tuesday evening along Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ikom Highway, Cross-River States.
It was reported that the gunmen forced the passing motorists to stop as they besieged the highway.
Checks revealed that the kidnapped former Accountant-General was travelling with her driver back from her farm at Ekpri Iko after Iwuru in the Biase Local Government Area on Tuesday at around 5pm.
The state police command noted that it had deployed tactical teams, including the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, to the axis of the highway to protect drivers and commuters using the highway.
Recall that the Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ikom highway has become notorious for kidnappers in the last weeks.
At least 15 persons, including two medical doctors in the state, were abducted on that axis of the Calabar-Ikom highway.
It was learnt that the assailants killed the police identified as Sgt. Peter Ikwen and took his rifle.
