Brentford striker, Ivan Toney has spoken out after he was snubbed by England boss Gareth Southgate in his World Cup squad.
Southgate named his squad for Qatar on Thursday with the in-form Brentford striker left out.
Toney then responded by scoring twice against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The England international, however, insisted that his World Cup snub did not provide him with extra motivation for him against Manchester City.
“Listen, the only thing is to keep doing well, keep doing our best, keep doing well for the team and you never know what can happen,” Toney told BT Sport.
“Obviously disappointment [over England], but I know what I’m capable of. I won’t let it put me down, I’ll keep going and keep doing well for Brentford.”
In his attack for the tournament, Southgate had picked the likes of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish from Manchester City, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling from Chelsea and Callum Wilson from Newcastle United
