The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Joint Venture (JV) Businesses and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCS) of the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has accused some oil companies of evading tax payment.
The committee also said some ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government, which have refused to appear before it for presentation on the JV operations, may be compelled to do so.
Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Fulata, made the remarks at a meeting with stakeholders at the National Assembly yesterday.
He said sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution may be invoked to direct the police and other security agencies to compel the heads of organisations to appear for investigation.
“The Federal Inland Revenue Service, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Shell Nigeria Exploration Nigeria Limited are among the organisations to appear before the committee at the National Assembly on November 1, 2022.
“The following organisations have not made any submissions, in spite of public notice and letter of invitation sent to them.
“They include: the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), First Exploration Petroleum Development Company Limited, Eroton Exploration and Production Company Limited.
“Others are: Ten Oil Petroleum and Energy Limited, Staoil Nigeria Limited, Belema Oil Producing Limited, Emo Exploration and Production Limited, and Sterling Oil Exploration and Production,” he said.
