Nigeria’s U-17 female league, Flamingos on Sunday afternoon secured third position at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Germany 3-2 on penalties in Mumbai, India.

Bello later doubled Flamingos’ lead three minutes after the break.
Then Etim Edidiong, who came in as a substitute, added the third goal for the Flamingos in the 63rd minute of the game.
Germany pulled one back through Hella Viet 17 minutes from time.
The pressure piled on the Nigerian team by the Germans got them another goal as Paulina Bartz reduced the deficit in the 84th minute.
Then Loreen Bender got the equaliser for Germany at 90 minutes, taking the game to penalties.
The Flamingos prevailed in the shootout, beating Germany 3-2.
This is Nigeria’s best finish in the history of the competition. It was Nigeria’s sixth appearance at the competition with their previous best performance a quarter-final finish in 2010, 2012 and 2014 editions.
Meanwhile, Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Germany in their opening Group B match in the competition.
