Immediate restructuring that would allow practise of true federal system of government has been described as an antidote to the upliftment of democracy in the Country.
A human right lawyer, Gbenga Awosode, made the call at the weekend while speaking at the memorial colloquium organised for late Comrade Rotimi Obadofin, at Ola-Oni Centre, Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Speaking on the discussion with the theme: Democracy and Institutional Failures in Nigeria Political Development (Way Forward), Awosode posited that Nigeria has not been practising true democracy.
Awosode, frowned about how Nigeria is being governed, saying the “three tiers governments are not working for the peaceful living of the masses as expected.
The human right lawyer, who also attributed inability of some state governments to pay workers’ salary to the concentration of power to the central, posited that “there would be peace if each states is allowed to manage its resources.
“Nigeria will continue like this until masses are ready to liberate themselves. Legislatures are fighting for their own interest, claiming they are representing people of their constituencies.
“All the suspension and fighting among them is not because of Nigerians. They want to ensure that they steal what their grandchildren will meet.
He called on the youths to prepare for the liberation of the country, noting that the leaders are not ready to leave the position.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occassion, Comrade Barrister Shenge Rahman, said the freedom of Yoruba people was the utmost priority of the deceased comrade.
He said comrade Obadofin died pursuing the unity and oneness of Yoruba people.
Among the Speakers at the event were, Comrade Waheed Lawal, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, a Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Kayode Afolabi, Politicians and Human Rights Activists among others.
