The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has urged the Yoruba to ignore a comment credited to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Ladi Adebutu that the Southwest is greedy for demanding the presidency in 2023.
The association appealed to the Yoruba at home and in the diaspora to forgive Adebutu and overlook his ignorance.
It said they should not give the comment any serious attention.
Adebutu was reported to have said on Monday that the Yoruba were not the only people that constituted the entity called Nigeria and that the ethnic group should not to be selfish over power, but should support the aspiration of PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general election.
Adebutu had argued that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and interim Head of State Ernest Shonekan – two prominent Yoruba sons, had at different dispensations been Nigerian leaders, while nobody from the Northeast, Atiku Abubakar’s geopolitical zone, had had a chance to rule the country.
