Members of the Labour Party (LP), and supporters of Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, on Saturday, organised a rally in Lagos state.
The rally, which organizers said is meant to mobilise support for Obi and Yusuff Baba-Ahmed, his running mate, held amid activities to mark Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary, in spite of the early morning rain of the day.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police had earlier beefed up security at the Lekki Toll gate, where a Federal High Court had barred Obi’s supporters from converging and at some other locations of the highbrow Lekki area to prevent a breakdown of law and order. But as early as 7:30am, supporters of Obi gathered at the extension of Archbishop Vining Church in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, in preparation for the rally.
