Olabode Thomas-Fagbayi, the Onitigbo of Tigbo-Ilu, has revealed why he conferred a chieftaincy title on Portable, the controversial singer.
The ‘Ogo Forever’ crooner was recently named the Amuludun of Tigbo-Ilu, a land in Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun.
The title conferred on the singer had triggered a wave of reactions on social media.
Since he gained fame in 2021, Portable has always been in the news for the wrong reasons.
In May, the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner threatened to kill anyone who wins the categories he is nominated for at The Headies 2022.
The award organisers threatened to disqualify him if he doesn’t retract his statement.
Portable had initially taunted the award organisers before he later apologised for his “unguarded utterance” which he said was harmless.
Despite his apology, he was disqualified from this year’s Headies in July shortly after he claimed to have found ‘One million Boys’, a suspected cult group in Lagos.
The traditional ruler said he never knew Portable until recently.
Olabode argued that despite people’s “reservations about Portable,” the singer still remains “our son”.
The monarch also said Portable presented himself as a responsible person to him.
“I visited a school in my domain where I have gotten a report of misbehaviour among the pupils and students of the school. So, I went to the school to talk briefly with them,” he said
“It was there that I was told that somebody called Portable was passing through my domain and was throwing money at people, and in the process, many got injured.
“Because of that, I summoned him to my palace, and he came twice, but I wasn’t at the palace when he came.
“So, one day, I was walking on the road, and I saw him driving; I called for him, and he immediately came with his boys, and they all prostrated on the road.
“His mum is from Tigbo and he too lives here. He presented himself as a responsible person and we take him as that. Some might have reservations about him, but even at that he’s still our son.”
