The Jama’atu Nasril Islam on Thursday said the announcement of the sighting of the moon would be made by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
The Kogi State Chairman of JNI, Ambassador Usman Bello, made this known in Lokoja during a press briefing to usher in this year Ramadan fast.
He said that today (Friday), the sighting of the moon should be communicated to the sultan who is also the President General, JNI, for announcement.
Bello appealed to all Islamic organisations, the ‘Ulamah’, the ‘Mufassirun’ and the entire Muslim ‘Ummah’ to follow the guidelines of ‘Tafseer’ as laid down by the national headquarters of the JNI.
He also warned that provocative and indecent language, character assassination, during ‘Tafseer’ should be avoided, adding that Islam was a religion of peace.
He said, “During preaching, the ‘Ulamah’ should not engage in controversial issues that are capable of dividing the ‘Ummah’ and diverting attention from the major problems affecting the ‘Ummah’.
“The Ulama should, during ‘Tafseer’, proffer solutions to problems that have become endemic in the society, especially corruption and injustice at all levels, political thuggery, adultery, cultism, witchcraft, ritual killings, the breakdown of Muslim family values, gambling, intoxication, dishonesty, insecurity and all other social vices bedevilling the society,” he said.
Bello called on Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to pray Allah to continue to guide, protect and support our leaders at all levels for peace, unit and development to take place.
“Let us continue to pray fervently to Allah for President Muhammadu Buhari’s quick recovery and for his safe return home to continue his crusade of change and social reforms,” he added.
