The Judicial Commission of Enquiry set up by the Ekiti State Government to look into the finances of the state between 2010 and 2014 has commenced sitting in Ado-Ekiti.
Incumbent Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was the Ekiti State governor between October 15, 2010 and October 16, 2014.
Speaking during its inaugural sitting on Thursday, the chairman of the commission, Justice Bamidele Oyewole (retd.), highlighted the terms of reference of his commission to include ascertaining the actual amount that accrued to the state as statutory allocations from the Federation Account.
He said the commission would also consider all relevant financial transactions of the state during the period under review.
According to him, the commission also has the mandate to investigate the allegations of fraud, diversion and conversion of funds related to the Universal Basic Education Commission.
He stressed that the commission would find out the exact amount received on behalf of the state under the scheme and how it was expended.
Oyewole added that the commission was, in addition, authorised to verify the amount obtained as loan by government within the period and how the funds were utilised.
Assuring all stakeholders of impartiality and transparency, Oyewole called for memorandum from the general public, while emphasising the need for the support of all concerned towards the success of the assignment.
Members of the commission are Mrs. Bolanle Wale-Awe, Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo, a representative of the Labour Unions, Oladele Blessing; Mrs. Adesola Oluremi, Mr. Vincent Omodara, Sunday Bamise and State Director of Public Prosecutors, Gbemiga Adaramola (Secretary).
The commission has three months to conclude its assignment.
