Toronto Mayor John Tory has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a release, the mayor’s office said he tested positive on Thursday morning and is self-isolating at home.
This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19.
I am thankful that I have been fully vaccinated and have the best protection possible against COVID-19. I know this also gives me the best chance at a quick recovery so I can be back to a busy in-person schedule as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/CMF2mD7QVs

“The Mayor had been taking daily rapid tests out of an abundance of caution given the number of events he attends,” reads the release.
Tory has received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and will become eligible for a second booster next month.
“I am thankful that I have been fully vaccinated and have the best protection possible against COVID-19,” Tory said in a statement.
“I know this also gives me the best chance at a quick recovery so I can be back to a busy in-person schedule as soon as possible. Right now, I feel fine and have extremely mild symptoms so far.”
Tory said he has spoken to the city’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Eileen de Villa since testing positive and he is following her orders to avoid spreading the virus.
The mayor’s office said he will continue to complete his work and take part in virtual meetings while he recovers.
