The mayor of Hostomel town in Ukraine has been shot and killed while out distributing aid, according to Ukrainian officials.
The town is close to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and is home to the Hostomel airfield, a key strategic point at the centre of fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, Sky News reports.
The town council said Yuri Prylypko died while distributing bread and medicines to those in need.
He was killed along with two others, Ruslan Karpenkom and Ivan Zore.
A statement by the Hostomel council said he “died as a hero”, adding that it was impossible for a funeral to immediately be held due to the war.
