The Osun State Government has said the 2022 governorship poll in the state will not affect ongoing road projects.
The Commissioner for Works, Remi Omowaiye, explained on Monday that the Gboyega Oyetola administration had resolved to take advantage of the dry season to fast-track work on road projects in the state.
Omowaiye, who gave an assurance that work would progress unhindered on all the recently awarded roads in Ile-Ife and Ikire, added that the administration had means of funding the projects before it announced the commencement of work.
He said, “We have done between 20 and 25 major roads. Some of these roads are the Igbajo/Ada 14-kilometre road, which will be inaugurated in a matter of weeks; we have done the 4.1-kilometre Ereguru Road in Ilesa; we have also done the Ede/Ejigbo Road, to mention but a few.
“We want to take advantage of the dry season and do a lot of roads in the first quarter of next year. Work on the projects will not slow down due to increase in political activities.
“Once the governor comes out to announce that a project will be done, he must have got funds for it. Most often, projects are delayed because of funding. Election or no election, our projects will not be affected.”
