The National Unity And Peace Corps, NUPEC, a merger group of the Nigerian Peace Corps has appealed to Nigerian to understand and embraced the core values of peace, citizenship and patriotism.
Osun state Commandant of National Unity And Peace Corps (NUPEC) Commandant, Mr Toyin Moses Ayodele stated this at the passing out parade of the new 10th and 11th Cadet Mediators in Osogbo the state capital on Saturday.
Ayodele, noted that NUPEC has remained focused and law abiding in all its activities and has never joined issues with any existing agencies of government nor engaged in any kind of arguments or confrontation that could lead to unwarranted litigation.
The commandant explained that the corps was mandated to empower, developed and provide gainful employment for the youths to facilitate peace, volunteerism, community service and nation building by engaging in mandatory roles when there was crisis in the nation.
According to him, ”Our merit and recognition is earned on the pedigree of peacemaking, peace building, compelling, integrity, discipline, dedication to service, respect for human life, passion for peaceful co-existence, mutual understanding for conflict resolution, love for fellow citizens and dignity of all mankind”.
He noted that the set of cadet being presented for passing out parade were basically the state government volunteers candidates from all the 64 Local Council Development Authorities in the state as designed by the Governor of the state, Mr Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola whom he said the organization has duly awarded as the Chief mediators of Osun state.
”The Cadets Mediators passing out today are those who showered keen interest in the activities of the organization and determined to be trained and tutored to understand the ethos of becoming peacemakers”
The commandant said, the reasons for their domestication approach was to ensure cordial knowledge and relationship with stakeholders in the communities such as traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, opinion leaders, group and individuals in various communities.
Ayodele, maintained that the Nigerian peace corps in collaboration with senior partners in the service to the nation was ready to provide solutions that will restored total peace to Nigeria in the face of challenges facing the nation in terms of political acrimony, economic recession, ethnic rivalry, extremism tribal agitation and insurgencies bedevilling the country.
He also appealed to the the Federal government and all well meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian unity and Peace Corps project for its final accent by Mr president of the Federal Republic of Nigerian.
The Osun NUPEC Commandant, however commended the federal government on the ongoing anti corruption crusade and all state security agencies for their support towards the development of the organisation in the state as well as the present administration in the state.
