The Chief Press Secretary to the Osun State Governor, Ismail Omipidan, on Friday described as mischievous and wicked, allegations by Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, the leader of The Osun Progressives, that elements within government and the All Progressive Congress in the state were plotting to kill leaders of his group.
Adebiyi at a press briefing on Thursday had called for intervention of party leaders and security agencies to prevent bloodshed, alleging that those behind the attack had resorted to self-help of planned attack and assassination after they failed in their bid to impose their candidates on the party during the last APC Ward Congress in the state.
But Omipidan, while reacting, said those behind the allegations might be the ones actually plotting something sinister.
Omipidan, in a statement obtained by The Drum Online in Osogbo, said, “Only a mischievous character would accuse a person of the governor’s standing, who in the last three years has not through his actions and inaction done anything to portray him as a man given to violence or the government he leads capable of assassination plot.
“This was a man some persons tried to assassinate last year (but) God in his infinite mercies delivered him. Till date, Mr Governor has not lifted a finger. But if it were Adelowo, only God knows what would have happened.
“At his level as the former acting chairman of the party, if he has any issue, he should see security operatives and give them the particulars that will aid their job rather than make spurious and unguarded statements.
“That said, I want to implore security operatives to be on the alert. Elder Adebiyi and others might be the ones actually plotting something sinister and might therefore just be looking for an alibi. Isn’t it said that we judge others by our own standard?”
